COMMUNITIES OF PRACTICE/INTEREST COMING YOUR WAY
Hope you all have had a good summer.
We, at NESAP have been in a quiet and thoughtful place – as you may have guessed from our lack of communication. It’s been a time to mull over our meeting experience of the last two years and think about our relevancy to our community of organizational psychologists and colleagues.
What we have seen emerge in the last couple of years has been an interest in Communities of Practice/Interest, COP/I. It first came up when a number of people wanted to get together for continued discussion after Amy Edmundson’s presentation on Teaming. More recently, after discussion with a colleague, a group interested in Adult Development Theory and Application in Our Work with Clients has formed. We think there are more topics that might be of interest to our community.
We are delighted to support COP/I and have been thinking how best to do that. We have some ideas and, as always, are happy to explore others with you.
As you know, Communities of Practice/Interest provide an opportunity for us to develop a deeper understanding of a particular topic through discussion and/ or reading in small groups. We also see COP/I as an opportunity for enriching our work with clients through discussion of practical application of what we are learning.
NESAP’s role in this will be to help groups convene their first meeting. We will be happy to help find both suburb and downtown locations. We expect each group’s process to be developed by the group when it convenes and to continue to evolve as the group learns what works best for them. The group will decide how often to meet and etcetera. NESAP will cover reasonable costs through the first year and then step back and see what makes sense.
Below is a list of COP/I that we think might be of interest. IT IS UP TO YOU TO INIITIATE THE COP/I. LET US KNOW A TOPIC IS OF INTEREST TO YOU BY SENDING AN EMAIL TO ME AT THE ADDRESS AT THE BOTTOM OF THE LIST. Enjoy!
